Description
Hannunvaakuna pendant (or käpälikkö): Symbol with a christian name (literally "Saint John's arms") but with very ancient pre-christian origins, it is known and widespread in many cultures, traditions or places, specially in Northeastern european areas. The original meaning it's not clear, several assumptions have been made, one of this is the idea that the four knots could represent the four cardinal spirits that hold up the sky.
In Finland is known as Hannunvaakuna or käpälikkö and it was, and it is today, particulary widespread as a protective symbol against evil spirits. It can be carved on wood, necklaces, pendants but also painted on the walls to protect the house and the family from any evil that could hit them.
